From Star Patroller to U.S. TV: BINI Jhoanna returns to reporting roots.

BINI Jhoanna may be a P-pop idol now, but she hasn’t left her broadcast journalist roots behind. They were on full display during a guest reporting stint in Los Angeles.

On Fox 11’s “Good Day LA” on April 24 (early April 25 in Manila), Jhoanna stepped in for a quick weather report, guided by resident meteorologist Maria Quiban.

Standing in front of the green screen, Jhoanna seemed tense: “Okay. How do I start it?”

But the BINI “Master” quickly found her footing, delivering the forecast with surprising ease. “I’m gonna do a bit of Tagalog. She’s a natural talaga,” Maria said of Jhoanna, who had kilig overload.

P-pop’s “master” goes global

Maria and Jhoanna also joked about the weather in Palm Springs, near the Coachella festival grounds, where BINI made history as the first Filipino act to perform there (on April 10 and 17).

“It was hot but also very windy, so we didn’t really feel the hotness. But we bring hotness to the stage!” Jhoanna quipped, to which Maria replied, “Yes, you do!”

Hours later, Jhoanna poked fun at herself, tweeting, “HAHAHAHAHA NAKAKAHIYA.” But her fans reassured her that she had done a good job.

“You’re so amazing, Jo, even though it was impromptu earlier, you did it so well. You’re not just the best leader, you’re also the best reporter,” a commenter said.

It’s a full circle moment for Jhoanna. On April 15, 2024, she served as TV Patrol’s guest “Star Patroller”—even writing her own scripts. She returned as Star Patroller on October 21 for TV Patrol and TV Patrol Express.

Jhoanna had long dreamed of becoming a broadcast journalist. In high school, she competed in school press conferences and won awards in radio and television broadcasting. But upon joining BINI, she had to put that dream on hold for the time being.

Focus muna talaga sa BINI. Pero after BINI, alam ko po talaga na ito po ‘yong gusto kong gawin.
