Thai superstar congratulates Wilbert Ross as he takes on the lead role in the local remake.
Thai superstar Mario Maurer has personally sent his support to Wilbert Ross as the Filipino actor steps into the role of Mak in the upcoming Philippine adaptation of “Pee Mak.”
For Wilbert, the message carries extra meaning as Mario was the actor who originally brought the character to life in the hit Thai horror-romance film. More than a simple endorsement, Mario’s personal greeting became a memorable moment for Wilbert, who has admired the Thai star since his younger years.
In a videotaped message sent to Viva Films, Mario thanked Filipino audiences for embracing the original “Pee Mak” and congratulated Wilbert and the entire cast of the Philippine adaptation.
“Thank you for loving our film ‘Pee Mak’,” Mario said.
“I want to congratulate Wilbert Ross and the whole cast of the Philippine version of ‘Pee Mak.’ I know, guys, that you will do it great,” he added.
Mario also encouraged Filipino moviegoers to support the new adaptation when it arrives in cinemas on October 14.
“I’m sure, guys, you’re going to have a great time there. See you! Mahal ko kayo!” the Thai actor said.
The personal message was particularly special for Wilbert, who admitted that receiving encouragement from Mario was heartwarming.
“Nakakataba po ng puso,” Wilbert said in an interview with veteran entertainment insider Jojo Gabinete for his “Cabinet Files” column on September 22.
Wilbert also acknowledged Mario’s stature in Thailand and the significance of portraying a role previously associated with the Thai superstar.
“Syempre, isa si Mario sa mga talagang big star po sa Thailand. It’s an honor na ma-portray ko ang role niya as Mak sa ‘Pee Mak’,” he said.
His admiration for Mario goes back to his high school days, when he watched the actor in films such as “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and the original “Pee Mak.” Wilbert also hopes that taking on the role could eventually lead to a personal meeting with his longtime idol.
Released in Thailand in 2013, “Pee Mak” became known for its mix of horror, romance, and comedy, with Mario’s portrayal of Mak becoming closely associated with the film.
Now, Wilbert is taking on the same character for the Philippine adaptation, starring opposite #BeaBinene and directed by Victor Villanueva.
