A cinematic push for legal change in the world’s last annulment-only nation.
The Philippine Consulate General in Houston is inviting Filipinos and international audiences to the U.S. premiere of “Unmarry”, a 2025 Filipino comedy-drama that puts the realities of marriage and separation under the spotlight.
The screening is set on April 28, at Cinemark Memorial City in Houston, Texas, as part of the 59th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival, which runs from April 24 to May 3 and features entries from over 60 countries.
From Manila to Houston
Directed by Jeffrey Jeturian and written by Chris Martinez and Therese Cayaba, “Unmarry” stars Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo as a couple navigating the emotional and legal complexities of annulment—an issue that remains deeply personal and socially relevant in the Philippines.
Blending humor with hard truths, the film explores the unraveling of a relationship with both sensitivity and candor, offering a rare cinematic take on a topic often handled with restraint in local storytelling.
“Unmarry” has already earned critical acclaim after its strong showing at the Metro Manila Film Festival, where it took home multiple honors including Second Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor for Tom Rodriguez, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, and a Special Breakthrough Performance award.
The Houston screening marks another milestone for the film as it continues its international run, bringing Filipino narratives to a broader audience through global festival platforms.
Tickets are available through the festival’s official website and at the Cinemark Memorial City box office.
