Lysol Philippines and It’s Showtime recently alluded to Senate events.
In another case of brands doing political commentary, Bebang Halo-Halo threw shade at an unnamed senator.
“Mainit. Tapos uulan. Di maintindihan, parang ung isang senador jan,” the dessert chain wrote in a Facebook post on May 28, without specifying who it was referring to.
In the comments, the store said it will “auto delete” remarks mentioning “Bayaran,” “Maleta,” “8080,” “2028,” and “Kung anu-anung political color.”
“ktnxbyemwamwa,” it added.
The brand continued its playful tone in its replies. When asked which senator it was referring to, it said, “sikrit walang klu.” To a comment that read, “Walang onsehan sa senado hahaha,” it responded with an image of “Stranger Things” character Eleven, portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown.
It also quipped “pwidi piru dipindi” to a suggestion that it sell halo-halo to those who felt alluded to, and replied, “Hoy Ronald!” to a user joking about its supposed capacity to buy trolls and fake accounts.
When a commenter wrote, “May the force majeure be with you ang atake,” it dropped a “Star Wars” GIF. Sen. Robin Padilla recently used the term amid debates on online voting during Senate sessions, while the franchise’s iconic line is “May the force be with you.”
To a user telling the brand, “balik niyo dating quality ng halo halo saka na pulitika,” it responded with a text image that read, “Ontog.”
And to a patron saying they could be Bebang Halo-Halo’s “customer forever,” it replied with a still from James Reid’s “Bahala Na” music video featuring the lyric, “Naniniwala na ako sa forever.”
Recently, disinfectant brand Lysol Philippines shared an image of dusty footprints on a staircase with the text, “GERMS CAN RUN, BUT CAN’T HIDE”—and with the caption, “Caught in the act trying to get away! Give them nowhere to run with Lysol Disinfectant Spray.” The post was widely perceived as a jab to Sen. Bato dela Rosa, who was seen in a CCTV footage running—and tripping—on a staircase, allegedly to evade National Bureau of Investigation officers serving an International Criminal Court arrest warrant.
Noontime program “It’s Showtime” also appeared to reference the incident, with host Jugs Jugueta running and tripping while being chased by his colleagues.
Mainit. Tapos uulan. Di maintindihan, parang ung isang senador jan.
