A chance visit and a heartfelt TikTok post turned SeokChon in Ermita from a quiet restaurant into one of Manila’s busiest dining spots.
An authentic Korean restaurant in Manila that once struggled to attract customers is now drawing long lines after a single TikTok review went unexpectedly viral.
SeokChon 석촌, a Korean and Chinese-style Korean restaurant in Ermita, recently found itself flooded with diners after a content creator shared her experience of discovering the establishment by chance when a planned trip to Tagaytay fell through.
“When we came in on Saturday night, naka-off ibang lights and aircon, so it means di talaga ganun karami customers nila. Inopen lang ni kuya nung umupo na kami. As an empath, sabi ko sa bf ko if masarap yung food ipopost ko sila,” TikTok user @iceyynini wrote in her post.
After enjoying the food, she decided to post about the restaurant, which has only 724 Facebook followers as of writing, hoping to encourage others to give it a try.
The video quickly gained traction online, prompting hundreds of people to visit the restaurant over the following days.
@iceyynini Seok Chon told me they’re incredibly grateful for all of your support 🤍 Just because of one post, so many people discovered them. Seeing the amazing staff, the kind owner, and the entire team finally receive the recognition they truly deserve has been so heartwarming. Thank you to everyone who visited, shared, recommended, and supported them. Every bit of support means so much, and I hope we can continue showing them the love they deserve ❤️ #SeokChon #Koreanrestaurant #fyp #koreanfoodmanila

“Seeing the owner and the staff happy has been so rewarding. Maybe this is something I want to keep doing. I hope I can continue creating content that helps more small restaurants get the love and support they deserve,” she added.
The granddaughter of the restaurant’s owner later thanked the creator, saying the family business had been struggling and that the unexpected attention gave operations a significant boost.
Some customers who recently visited the restaurant reported long queues and full seating areas, a stark contrast to the nearly empty dining room seen just days earlier.
The story resonated with many Filipinos online, with some comparing it to content creators abroad who intentionally feature lesser-known restaurants to help small businesses gain customers.
Others said the sudden influx of diners was a reminder that a single recommendation on social media can sometimes make a meaningful difference, not only for business owners but also for the employees whose livelihoods depend on them.
SeokChon’s story has become a reminder that sometimes, all it takes is one person willing to share a good experience for a quiet dining room to become the city’s next must-visit spot.
