QC staple ends its run as MRT-7 works reshape foot traffic and competition.

After decades of serving diners along North Avenue, the New Peach Blossoms Restaurant in Quezon City has permanently closed, surprising many who saw it outlast years of construction and growing competition in one of Metro Manila’s busiest commercial districts.

The restaurant announced on July 3 that it had served its last customers on June 30. Under the current management, New Peach Blossoms Restaurant had been operating for more than 25 years.

New Peach Blossoms had a standalone location in front of TriNoMa Mall along North Avenue. When construction on the MRT-7 North Avenue station began, it relocated to the building next door in 2017.

The restaurant was best known as a venue for intimate occasions like receptions, reunions, gatherings, anniversaries, and birthdays.

Culture blogger Ricky Baizas wrote in 2014 that the original Peach Blossoms restaurant—also along North Avenue—used to occupy a whole building, with a function room on the top floor. The building was supposedly demolished when SM North EDSA was constructed.

Some regulars speculate that the delayed MRT-7 construction may have contributed to declining foot traffic. Walking along North Avenue has become difficult for commuters and pedestrians amid the darkness caused by the railways and the smaller, damaged sidewalks affected by construction equipment.

Surrounding malls including SM North EDSA, TriNoMa, and Vertis North have also pushed for more aggressive expansion over the past few years, potentially increasing competition for the local restaurant.
