McDonald’s replaces the longtime favorite with Choco Lava Puff and Taro Custard Pie.
McDonald’s Philippines is facing backlash after replacing its longtime Apple Pie with two new dessert offerings, prompting customers to ask why the fast-food chain had to remove a fan favorite instead of simply expanding its menu.
Beginning July 3, McDonald’s is offering Choco Lava Puff and Taro Custard Pie, replacing the Apple Pie, which was removed from the menu on June 30.
The move quickly drew criticism on social media, with many saying the new desserts are no substitute for the iconic Apple Pie. Others questioned why all three products could not be sold at the same time.
“People go to you for Apple Pie ’tas tatanggalin niyo to make room for that? 3 pies can exist all in your menu at the same time,” one Facebook user commented.
Apple Pie has been part of McDonald’s menu since 1968, after a franchisee in Knoxville, Tennessee introduced the dessert. It has since become a staple across many McDonald’s markets worldwide.
Taro Custard Pie is also not entirely new to the brand. McDonald’s previously introduced it as a limited-time offering in Singapore in 2024.
