Actor recalls disturbing audition scheme involving impersonation of top network executive, warns fellow artists to stay vigilant.
Actor Kelvin Miranda candidly shared a horrifying experience with an alleged talent manager who introduced himself as the President and CEO of GMA Network, where the actor is a contract artist.
During Kelvin’s recent appearance on “You LOL Your Honor,” hosted by Chariz Solomon and Buboy Villar, the actor recounted his encounter with the fake talent manager.
“Last time naka encounter ako ng scammer na gusto akong paghubarin sa audition,” he shared. “Pinost ko ‘yon sa social media.”
According to Kelvin, the offer was also sent to his talent manager, Tyronne Escalante, who received the “proposal” from a person using the name of GMA Network President and CEO Annette Gozon-Valdes.
“Tumatawag daw si Ms. Annette sa kaniya,” the actor shared, adding that he immediately became suspicious.
“Oops, mabigat na pangalan iyong narinig ko, anong meron kay Ms. Annette?”
“Hindi ako nagpadala sa taranta siyempre, pero sandali, bakit tatawag si Ms. Annette sa akin? Bakit ganun ka abrupt? So hindi ako kumagat doon sa idea na iyon. So, nagusap muna kami ng manager ko.”
“Is it true that she called you?” Kelvin asked his manager.
According to Kelvin, his manager initially began to believe the person’s claims. “So, kinontak na ako ng nagpapakilalang Ms. Annette, ‘Hi Kelvin, good morning, I hope ganyan ganyan,’ so the way mag text ini-imagine ko na agad, hindi siya ganito makipagusap.”
Afterward, he posted about the incident on social media to raise awareness among fellow artists and remind them not to be easily convinced by seemingly impressive offers from people they do not know.
