Actor shares scrapped P-pop dream, says management steered him toward solo path before landing lead roles.
Actor Michael Sager has revealed that he nearly debuted as a member of Cornerstone Entertainment’s P-pop boy group VXON, sharing that joining a boy group was once one of his biggest dreams before eventually pursuing acting as a solo artist.
Speaking during a recent media conference, Sager recalled that when Cornerstone first tapped him to become part of the group’s lineup, he immediately became excited because he had long wanted to enter the entertainment industry through music.
“Kumakanta po ako, pero karaoke lang,” he laughed, remembering his initial reaction when the offer was presented to him.
However, plans eventually changed after the management advised him that it would be better to establish himself first as a solo artist.
Sager admitted it was a bittersweet moment. While he was saddened that he would no longer get to fulfill his dream of debuting in a boy group, he also trusted the direction given to him and remained grateful for the opportunities that followed.
Looking back, he said he has developed an even deeper appreciation for the P-pop industry after seeing firsthand the amount of work artists put into their craft.
“Really big respect to the P-pop industry! Iba talaga ang dedication nila and it’s a whole different world from acting. And if I were given a chance to one day try, why not?” he shared.
Although he ultimately pursued a different career path, Sager said he remains close to the members of VXON and proudly celebrates their milestones. The five-member group—C13, Sam, Franz, Vince, and Patrick—recently announced their exclusive partnership with Japan’s PIA Corporation and are preparing for expanded promotions in the Japanese market.
“Members ng VXON, kapatid ko ‘yang mga ‘yan sa Cornerstone. I’m so proud of them. They had a concert, they’re going to Japan. Good luck, guys! I wish you all the best. Represent Cornerstone and, of course, the P-pop industry really well. Kaya I’m very proud to know them,” he said.
Sager is currently one of the lead stars of “Born to Shine,” an upcoming coming-of-age youth drama series directed by Rod Marmol and Carlo Enciso Catu.
