Now based in Canada, the beauty queen-actress shares her journey toward self-acceptance and authenticity.
Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman opened up on social media about embracing the changes in herself as she ages.
On Instagram, the beauty queen-actress shared her journey of accepting a big change in herself, especially her gray hair.
“Ilang taon ko tinago, tiniis, tinakpan… and I’m done. Pagod na ako. Ayoko na,” she captioned her post.
According to Lara, having gray hair is something she inherited from her father, and it began when she was just 12 years old.
“The first time I saw a white hair on my head, I was 12 years old. Since my early thirties, I have been dyeing my hair almost every two weeks just to cover the whites we got from our papa,” she shared.
She also revealed that she is not the only one in her family with white hair, as her brothers and sister have also inherited the same trait.
“You see, my papa already had almost fully white hair in his 30s. My brothers, my sister, and I all have a head full of whites and greys.”
For Lara, this marks the beginning of letting go of the pressure to maintain a perfect image and instead embracing the beauty of her natural genes.
“I’m finally letting go of ‘perfection’ and embracing my God-given white hair that comes not just with age, but with genetics too. So call me lola or grandma, it’s okay… I’m going to try and rock this white hair,” she wrote.
As she embraces these changes, Lara admitted that the journey has not been easy.
“I know it’s not going to be easy because sometimes I look in the mirror and just want to cover it all up again. That’s why I’m posting this now… to give myself courage…”
She also asked her followers for support as she begins this new chapter.
“Will you help me? Maybe even join me on this journey?”
The former Miss International is currently based in Canada after deciding to move there with her family, and she is now active as a teacher.
