Nearly 3 in 10 cars sold in July were electrified

xEV sales jumped 161.8% year-on-year to 7,086 units as electrified vehicles took a larger share of the car market.

Nearly three in every 10 vehicles sold in July were electrified. That growing presence is gaining speed, with xEV sales jumping 161.8% from a year earlier.

Sales of xEVs, or electrified vehicles that include models powered partly or fully by electricity, reached 7,086 units in July, up from 2,707 units in the same month last year, according to combined statistics from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association Inc. (TMA).

The momentum has also carried into the first seven months of the year. CAMPI-TMA members sold 38,286 xEVs from January to July, up 136.4% from the 16,195 units sold during the same period last year.

The July sales gave electrified vehicles a 29.5% share of the local car market, according to CAMPI President Jose Maria Atienza. That was 18 percentage points higher than their share in the same month last year.

Atienza said demand for internal combustion engine vehicles remains strong, showing that conventional vehicles continue to have a strong customer base even as electrified models gain ground.

The numbers give automakers and dealers more reason to expand their electrified vehicle lineups, charging support, and after-sales services. Growing xEV sales also give Filipino motorists more choices in a market that has long been dominated by gasoline and diesel vehicles.
