The National Artist’s long-running program continues to nurture the next generation of Filipino storytellers.

National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee has officially opened applications for Batches 30 and 31 of his free, in-person scriptwriting workshop, widely regarded as one of the most influential writing programs in the country.

Aspiring screenwriters can apply from November 8 to 30 through the official Google Form shared on Ricky Lee’s verified social media pages.

The workshop will select only 30 participants per batch, continuing its tradition of small, intensive classes that emphasize mentorship and personal storytelling.

First launched in 1982, the Ricky Lee Scriptwriting Workshop has become a cornerstone of Filipino screenwriting education. Over four decades, it has trained thousands of writers, many of whom have gone on to become acclaimed filmmakers, television writers, and creative leaders across the Philippine entertainment industry.

The workshop is known for its deeply personal and character-driven approach to storytelling. Under Lee’s guidance, participants learn to build screenplays grounded in truth, emotion, and lived experience–the same qualities that define his acclaimed works like “Himala,” “Moral,” “Karnal,” and “Anak.”
