Vandolph assures support for ailing ‘Home Along’ costar Cita Astals

For Vandolph, the response was simple: they’re standing by her.

“We’re still waiting for her decision,” he said, referring to any possible medical procedure. “Of course, she’ll decide for herself what she wants to do.”

Still, he made it clear that support from the team is already there. “We’re like a family. Anytime she wants to do something, we’ll do it. Who else will help you but your family, right?”

That sense of family is something Vandolph says defined the entire production, which took two and a half years to complete. Originally intended for the Metro Manila Film Festival, the project faced delays, but ultimately found its way to a June release, just in time for Father’s Day.

“It’s really teamwork,” he said, crediting director Boy 2 “Dos” Quizon, the cast, and crew. “We were guided by our dad.”

The film also serves as a tribute to Vandolph’s father, the late Comedy King Dolphy–who plays Kevin Cosme in the series–to Babalu, and the father figures who shaped the original series. 

While many expect pure comedy, Vandolph said audiences should be ready for something deeper. “There are a lot of tears,” he admitted. “It’s nostalgic. The people who worked on the TV series now have families of their own. It’s like a reunion—not just for us, but for the audience, too.”
